Golf at McCracken Country Club and a look around Victor Harbour

The final round of our golfing part of our tour takes place today, at the very challenging McCracken Golf Course. It doesn't get light until around 7.30 am, and it is freezing for the next hour or so, so our tee off time is 10 am. Fortunately, we made a last minute decision to get a motorised cart, as it is long hard slog around this very tough golf course. There is water everywhere and more bunkers than we have seen at any other course on this trip. The course has been let go a bit, but greens are very fast, and with a slope of 140 off the mens tee and 135 off the ladies tee, it is tough.

Scores see sawed throughout the round with the winner being decided on the 18th hole, with Carole putting in a much better putting effort, winning by 2 points for the day. Our overall result was that we have both had two individual wins, and on a gross combined score for the 4 rounds, Carole won by 1 point.

You can really tell it is winter here and unfortunately we bought sun hats rather than beanies. We had a good lunch at the club, who despite the quiet demand, are very eager to serve and the staff have been great.

After lunch we drove into Victor Harbour to have a look around. The town was dead and shops were closing up at 3.30 pm in the afternoon. Things are not all that rosy in SA, despite the spin doctors.

The weather is cold and overcast, so not great to spend a lot of time outdoors, but at least it is not raining as it seems it has been in Sydney ever since we left.

We drove around to the bluff to get a few photos looking back at the township of Victor Harbour. It was too cold to take advantage of some of the walking tracks here.

A nice hot cup of coffee seemed a good idea before heading back to McCracken CC, but the coffee shops in town were all packing up due to lack of customers. The bakery was still open, but getting ready to close and we managed to get a cuppa, after about a 15 minute ait whilst they mopped their floor and seemed to concentrate more on closing shop than serving customers.

We bought a few essentials at the shopping centre in town, and headed back to McCracken CC.

We ate at the club again tonight, at the bistro, as their fine dining restaurant is permanently closed. Once again the food was good, and the service excellent.

Tomorrow we head to Mildura.
